Positive Change and Innovation Shape the Fair Experience

The fair experience is something most of us hold on to tight, as it reminds us of our childhood. The predictable elements of animals, rides, food, and vendors brings back found memories and sometimes resistance to change. It can be tricky to strike a balance between nostalgia of the past and innovation for the future. Keeping It Fresh will explore the need to look at the fair experience from the attendee’s point of view. We’ll explore opportunities to enhance the experience by anticipating what people want and need. We’ll brainstorm ways to engage people at every turn while providing customer service that is off the charts.

Becky Lunders of teamWorks is an engaging and skilled consultant, trainer and facilitator. She speaks at conferences across the country helping organizations develop leadership and sustainability. While Becky’s expertise is in the nonprofit sector, she is able to transfer her experience and skills when training the public and private sector as well. Becky is an expert in building organizational capacity. She does keynote addresses, workshop facilitation, board and staff retreats, event design and development, teambuilding, consultation and soft skills training for many of the nation’s top nonprofits and associations.

She honed her skills and developed the teamWorks philosophy while working for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. During her time at ACS, Becky oversaw the growth of the organization’s signature fundraising event from 24 events raising $4 million to more than 300 events raising $31 million. With that came an increase in donors, volunteers, brand awareness and mission impact. Many of those elements have also proven successful in the association space.

Becky lives in Loomis, CA with her husband and three kids. When she’s not working, she enjoys working out, cheering for her kids’ sports teams and volunteering in her community.

The WFA Bowling Tournament is often referred to as the "unofficial kick-off" of our Reno Convention, and you'll definitely want to be part of the fun! This event sells out every year so register your team of 4 today!

S35 per person includes:
  • 2 games of bowling
  • Shoe rentals
  • Snacks
  • Door-prize drawings
  • Trophies for the high and low games in the men's, women's and team categories

Trophies presentations and door-prize drawings will take place after all participants have completed their second game. Must be present to win. Enjoy meeting new friends, seeing old friends, a no-host bar, and lots of laughter and fun at this must-attend event at the Grand Sierra Bowling Lanes.

Want to get involved more in WFA, but aren’t sure how? This luncheon is the perfect opportunity to gain an inside perspective on the numerous facets of our organization.


Join current WFA President Patricia Conklin and President-Elect Judy Carrico for a preview of the year ahead and a review of 2018. Hear reports from all key committees and a call for service (committee membership sign-ups will be available). The program will also feature a preview of the 2018 Merrill Award Finalists – recognizing the very best of the fair innovation, vision and leadership. Winners will be announced at the Industry Awards Dinner, Wednesday, January 23.

$35 includes a plated lunch and a packet featuring each of the Merrill Award Finalist's projects: what they did, how they did it, what they learned, and how you can implement their idea at your event. Always the perfect culmination of the week's events, the Industry Awards Dinner celebrates excellence and recognizes service. New Hall of Fame members will be inducted, the Barham Award will be presented, and the winner of the prestigious Merrill Award will be announced. Winners of the Achievement Awards - Featured Programs will be recognized, along with Years of Service. The 2019 Feature Fair Tour destination will be announced, and you can expect a sneak peek at what we have in store for the 2020 WFA Convention in Reno!
