CFA Chair Cliff Munson of Siskiyou Golden Fair, CFA Vice Chair Sarah Cummings of Sonoma-Marin Fair, WFA Hall of Famer Sandy Woods of Nevada County Fair and WFA President Troy Bowers of Amador County Fair stood up for fair funding at the Capitol on April 30, when the proposed funding in the 2015-2016 California State Budget was heard before Senate Subcommittee 2. Senators Lois Wolk (Chair), Jim Nielsen, and Fran Pavley passed the funding as written, with a continuous appropriation of $3.1 million to assist with fair operations and provide financial assistance to the state’s smaller or struggling fairs. Of that $3.1 million, $500,000 will be put toward training. The proposal also allocates $7 million for deferred maintenance. “It was a successful day at the Capitol,” noted Munson. “Our advocacy work over the last few years is really making a difference.” The funding proposal has now passed in Subcommittees for both the Assembly and the Senate.
