California Fairs Alliance


The California Fairs Alliance is a subsidiary of Western Fairs Association, providing advocacy and resource development for the network of California fairs.

The CFA mission is to represent the interests of California fairs with effective volunteer leadership that influences key decision-makers through advocacy, education and communication.

Current news from CFA

  • Governor’s Budget: The proposed '17-18 fiscal year budget contains the $3 million in basic funding, however there is no deferred maintenance funding. We are continuing to work with the leadership in the Senate and Assembly to see if there are opportunities to add funding during the budget process.
  • Funding Legislation: Assemblymember Adam Gray has introduced fair funding legislation and is looking to add fair funding components to other bills as he did last year with his internet poker legislation. (AB 1499)
  • Administrative Relief: State Senator McGuire has introduced our “funding fix” legislation which seeks to allow the CDFA to more efficiently manage fair funding, especially major and deferred maintenance funds. This will apply to all future funding. (SB 368)
  • General Legislation: We expect over 7000 bills to be introduced during the 2017-18 session. Our process of reviewing all bills that may impact fairs or service members is underway.
  • California Fairgrounds Appreciation Month: May 2017 was celebrated state-wide as Fairgrounds Appreciation Month. Activities at the Capitol included a legislative reception hosted by Assemblymember Frank Bigelow, an exhibit honoring California fairgrounds outside the Governor's office, and our very first Capitol Fairgrounds Day which brought more than 60 fair CEOs and Board Members together with their legislators.
